it's a family affair for La Petite Mag issue 7:

La Petite Mag issue 7 is out, and this is the vintage surf story we shot for them. It is a family affair indeed, from the vintage mini which I drive around Cape Town everyday to our little dude Noah who features in the editorial, and of course shot by my talented husband Justin Badenhorst. As for me, I was running around like a mad woman making sure all was going according to plan. These images are so beautiful and it's a privilege to be sharing some of Cape Town's beauty with the rest of the world! Thank you to Rachelle from La Petite, for once again giving us the opportunity to be in such an amazing mag.
You should really check Issue 7 there are some stunning editorials to discover and lots of beautiful things to be inspired by.

Getting to know Goat-Milk

Goat-Milk is a brand of stunning kids basics based in NY, created by the very inspiring duo composed of Roland Bello and Tania Vargas. They met 15 years ago while working together in the advertising world, they became friends very quickly and knew that one day they were going to work on an amazing project together. Roland used to travel to Europe often for work, and would bring back stunning children's underwear for Tania's kids. What started as an occasional souvenir soon became a necessity for her. Roland and Tania very soon decided to start manufacturing their very own brand of kids's underwear and Goat-Milk was born. Their campaign are always beautifully shot and I have been dying to get to know more about the 2 people behind this very cool brand:

WWKA- I remember clearly the first time I noticed Goat-Milk on the pages of a magazine, it was an amazing image of the boy seating with a dog. Who is the photographer and is there a story behind that picture?
ROLAND BELLO: NO STORY...WE WERE AT MY HOUSE IN P.A. DOING (WINGING) OUR FIRST SHOOT FOR GOAT-MILK.
TANIA: ROLAND BELLO IS THE PHOTOGRAPHER, THE DOG (PETEY) IS HIS AND THE KID (DIEGO) IS MINE.

WWKA- You and Roland clearly have an amazing creative chemistry, what's the best thing about working together?
ROLAND: I HAVE NO IDEA...I GUESS JUST HAVING ONE PERSON TO MAKE DECISIONS WITH AS OPPOSED TO SEEKING APPROVAL FROM AN ENTIRE COMPANY. IN OTHER WORDS, WE GET TO DO WHAT WE WANT.
TANIA: WE SHARE A LOT OF THE SAME VIEWS AND ESTHETICS. I THINK THAT MAKES FOR A GREAT WORKING RELATIONSHIP. AND THE PART ABOUT ANSWERING ONLY TO OURSELVES IS QUITE LIBERATING.

WWKA- Any big plans for Goat-Milk for 2012?
MAYBE SOME CAMOUFLAGE PRINT, MAYBE SOME VINTAGE-INSPIRED COLORS, POSSIBLY ANOTHER POP-UP STORE..SEVERAL IDEAS BREWING.

WWKA- ok, enough serious questions: If you could speak to one time of animal, what would it be? and what would you say?
ROLAND: A DOG. I HAVE 2 MISCHIEVOUS ONES AND I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY THEY DON"T LISTEN TO ME WHEN I PLEAD WITH THEM TO BEHAVE.
TANIA: CATS, WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY THINKING!!!

WWKA- describe your perfect day.
ROLAND: WAKING UP ON A TROPICAL WARM ISLAND WITH NO "TO DO" LIST.
TANIA: THAT "TO-DO" LIST WAS A CRACK AT ME . . . . I LOVE WALKING AROUND, ANYWHERE REALLY, FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME. PEOPLE WATCHING, CITY SOUNDS, LOOKING AT ARCHITECTURE, ETC. BETWEEN 2 KIDS AND A FULL TIME JOB IT'S RARE THAT I GET THE OPPORTUNITY TO SPEND A DAY LIKE THAT.

too beautiful for words!

This is kids fashion photography at its best! Welcome to Kid_In's world. A beautiful world of stunning images of kids fashion and childhood. I love this little write up on their site: "Kid-in is a platform for the diverse perspectives of a wide range of international and local designers and photographers, artists and thinkers, focusing on the singular subject of childhood."
I was having such a hectic day and this has changed my mood completely, I am now smiling again!
This series of images is taken from an editorial called " Shadow Poppets", the photographer is Timothy Saccenti and the fashion editor Alice Bertay. I love the dark and moody atmosphere of this shoot, beautiful work!

our shop frekkle!

Our little shop frekkle is taking shape. Amanda and I opened our doors 3 weeks ago in Salt River, Cape Town. Although we are still waiting for the kids hair salon to be put in, and a few more shop fittings, we are very happy with the look and feel of our space. We stock both of our brands: Amanda's brand called Sam & Seb and mine Petit pois. We are also launching the frekkle brand very soon : a range of high quality kids basics. So lots happening with frekkle! Super exciting!

La Miniatura and a rocking Spring 2012 collection

La Miniatura Spring 2012 collection is as edgy as ever. Jeffrey Sebelia stays true to his rock'n'roll style with this collection. I completely and utterly love it! Where can I start: The fit of the pants are all super skinny, which if you know my little dude, is the only fit he wears. The corduroy skinnies are beautiful as well as the mad collection of crayon denims! Jeffrey has also created some stunning fitted blazers and wild printed tops. This is truly where the wild kids dress!

Babiekins issue 8, our cover shot and editorial!

We just couldn't wait for this issue to come out! I am so excited to share with you this beautiful editorial shot by my husband and photographer extraordinaire Justin Badenhorst.
Spring is a very inspiring season and having to work on this editorial was a pure pleasure! I am obsessed with vintage clothes and searching for clothes for this story was so much fun! Ulrica, stylist for the shoot, and I were like kids in a candy store when it was time to hunt for clothes for the shoot. And as far as location goes well , Cape Town is a beautiful place to live and we are very lucky to have the most amazing locations right at our door step. Mountain Shadows is a stunning wine farm with a small hidden river running through it, it was the perfect place for this story. And on that hot African day we were all super grateful to be able to cool down with our feet in the water!
Thank you to all our super team for working on this stunning editorial:

close your eyes

I haven't been on Etsy for a while, which is a shame because I almost forgot how many great artists have wonderful things to share on this site. My first go to on Etsy are illustrators, and this week I am happy to find the quirky, nerdy and cute illustrations of Nan Lawson. She is a self-taught illustrator living and working in the Silverlake neighbourhood of LA. I am drawn to her quirky characters who all look very pensive with their eyes closed.

Chinche SS12 out!!!!

With a new season approaching comes some very exciting new collections from my favourite kids brand. This is Chinche's SS12. True to their edgy and unique style, Chinche's collection is always a little dark with this time a crazy splash of yellow!! There is a certain 80's feel to these designs, I love the little black dress which reminds me of a mini prom dress. Chinche is a brand that will always stand out!
