a beautiful editorial shot for Papier Mache.
I woke up this morning and downloaded the 2012 digital Year Book from Papier Mache which is such a treat! It is a lovely way to share with us again some of the magazine's best images of the year. Here is one story I really love shot by Delphine Jouandeau. These images are the perfect example of less is more, I love the simplicity of it.

A preview of Mini-Rodini's SS13 collection!
Here is a sneak peak at Mini-Rodini's summer collection for next year, named " Bon Voyage". This collection is inspired by the Love Boat and Captain Cousteau. My dude would be in love with this collection as he is fascinated by the maritime world. As per usual, Mini-Rodini's quirky artwork is unbelievable! I especially love the puffer fish! This collection includes clothes for any occasion: light woven shirts, shorts and blouses, super cute sneakers and white denim.
You can certainly get excited for the summer to come with collections like these!!!

Loving this local artist, Simon Lee.
Cape Town is a village, it's true. We all seem to know one another, all related somehow. So when I was looking for a new illustrator to do some artwork for my kids range, it didn't take me long to find Simon, who was a friend of a friend of a friend.... My friend had described his work as a little dark and quirky, those words clearly resonated with me! I couldn't wait to meet him and see some of his work. I wish I could show you his sketch book, his drawings are amazing, yes a little dark and quirky which I love! He emailed me some his work which he was exhibiting in Jo'burg ( images above). Here is getting to know a little more about Simon:
1. WWKA: Simon, where do you get your inspiration from?
I'm not really sure, but I get inspired when I notice something in life that has the potential to generate an interesting and original idea. Again, I can't really pinpoint these situations, they just happen. In short, I guess I just draw.
2.WWKA: Do you have a favourite subject to draw?
I most enjoy abstract images with interesting perspectives and fine detail, often combined with more recognizable images, such as animals.
3. WWKA: what do you want to do when you grow up?
Ha, absolutely no clue. An acrobat. No, I don't know.
4.WWKA: What band are you listening to at the moment?
Maps and Atlases. And Knxwledge. And Foals.
5. WWKA: what did you have for breakfast?
Futurelife and boiled eggs
If you would like to get in contact with Simon, contact him via email: simon.f_lee@hotmail.com

Rocking and rolling with Finger In The Nose.
I love the A/W collection from Finger In The Nose this year. This Parisian label is utterly cool, they used to mainly specialise in high quality denims for kids. The past few years this brand has grown their range, this winter it includes amazing puffer jackets, beautiful blazers and some incredible blouses for girls! The picture above completely kills me, it is such an amazing look! I would so wear this outfit!

Love is... by Soft Gallery. Exclusive interview!
I am so excited to share with you these images taken from the A/W12 collection "Love Is..." from one of my all time favourite kids brand Soft Gallery. And the exclusive interview with owners Barbara Hivdt and Tine Holt who founded the brand in 2007.
1-
When did you start Soft Gallery and why?
We started up about 5
years ago with no specific knowledge or actual interest in kids fashion, it all
occurred from a mutual interest in art and the idea of how we could implement
that into something different.
At that time we found
that there was a great opportunity in the kids fashion market to create
something unique and new that was not seen before and we felt a great desire to
create something which was more than just a piece of clothing. We wanted to
pass on a small piece of art to the youngest and make them feel special by
wearing it.'
We are representing and collaborating with local and
international artists. For every season we present new artist work in our
collections.
2-
Where do you get your inspiration from?
T: some of my favorite sources range from art, books, music and magazines
to the colors of nature.... Just about anything can be interpreted into designs, if you just look with
"the right kind of eye", and intuition....
B: For me its about keeping my senses open at all
time. I'm always observing and getting inspired, sometime at unexpected moments
and sometime by searching for it... I love travelling and meeting people....it
fills me up with lots of great new thoughts and ideas....
...But surely for both of us, the inspiration that
comes from finding and collaborating with different amazing artists, is a huge
thrill.
3-
How would you define good style for kids?
T: When a child look
and feel comfortable and special.
B: Good style is when its not forced. I like when a
child has personality even if it means standing out from the crowd. When it
comes to my own kids I like when its kept fairly simple, elegant but low key.
4-
Do you have a favourite season to design for?
T: I enjoy a lot the Spring/Summer
season. Its playful and sweet....
B: I somehow prefer
Autumn/Winter, for its warm and subtle colors and its many layers and heavier
textures...
5-
What is a special day in your life?
T: An afternoon in
the Autumn forest collecting chestnuts with the kids,,
B: B:
At this time of year....the other day my kids and I spent the whole
day picking apples from our trees in the garden and making apple pies
that will last the year out.
Thank you so much Barbara and Tine for taking the time to answer these questions!!!
